Loading List/Consignment Bill

A loading list (also referred to as a consignment bill) is the directory of all of the cargo on a means of transport and is an accompanying shipping document. The loading list needs to accompany the consignment at all times and is the basis for customs clearance for border-crossing transports. It contains the quantity, weight and volume of the goods, providing a sufficient declaration of the goods in the case of inspections by authorities. Upon pick-up/delivery of the goods, the carrier can also use the list to check whether everything has been loaded/delivered.

When transporting grouped loads, the bordereau counts as a loading list, as it documents all of the individual consignments loaded. In sea freight, it is called a manifest/cargo manifest and serves the purpose of customs clearance, among other things.
