Free-Flowing Bulk Material (FFBM)

Free-flowing bulk material is a term used in freight transport and refers to goods without a fixed geometrically defined shape. The term originates from the fact that FFBM is particularly well suited for flow processes. FFBM includes, for example, sand, coal, grit, gravel, liquids or gases.

Different legal regulations apply to the transport of Free-flowing bulk material, depending on the type. Many bulk materials such as sand, gravel or products from the landscape can be transported loose in dump trucks. Moisture-sensitive goods such as salt, sugar, cement or grain are transported in silos. Gases, oils and liquid chemicals are also transported in special tanks (e.g. round tanks) and the transports must comply with ADR regulations.
