Unitrans trusts in CarLo – Africa’s leading transport company goes live with German logistics software

After Imperial SA, Unitrans has also chosen the German quality software at the beginning of 2020. Of over 43 transport management systems worldwide, Soloplan’s logistics software CarLo was the one to assert itself and thus replace the transport management system developed internally by Unitrans.

CarLo is THE transport management system for forwarding and logistics companies all around the world. The logistics software was developed by Soloplan GmbH, which has its headquarters in Germany, and is already being used by over 1,100 customers worldwide. It optimises company processes from order entry to planning to invoice creation for medium-sized businesses as well as for major groups.

Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions is a transport and logistics company which has its headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. Since 1982, the company has specialised in a wide range of transports. Among other services, Unitrans offers solutions for agriculture, chemicals, food, crude oil and mining.

The internally developed transport management system needed to be used in combination with numerous programmes, from Microsoft Excel to telematics solutions, in order to be able to integrate all processes. With Soloplan’s logistics software CarLo and its add-ons CarLo inTOUCH (telematics) and CarLo inTOUR (route planning and toll cost calculation), those processes have now been centralised on a single platform, which gives Unitrans an improved overview for decision-making, improves the efficiency of the company, increases the utilisation of vehicles and reduces the employees’ workload. The financial accounting system SAGE could also be connected to CarLo without any problems.

Key User Training at Unitrans

After an extensive key user training, the software go-live was already carried out successfully in Namibia in March. The next step is the introduction of the transport management system CarLo in the branch offices in Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini and South Africa. Due to the intuitive user interface and the customer-specific adjustments, the software can be implemented without problems and without noticeably limiting the ongoing day-to-day business.
