Outsourcing
Outsourcing is the handing over of specific work processes to external service providers. Not all logistics companies have the required expertise or the necessary capacities (staff, equipment, warehouse) in all areas. In logistics, warehousing, order picking, dispatch processing and returns management can be outsourced. In equal measure, however, the entire logistics or individual projects can be outsourced. The decision for or against outsourcing always depends on the individual case and should be based on a thorough cost-benefit analysis.
The advantages of outsourcing are, above all, cost, time and space saving. Outsourcing means that external logistics specialists can be used; ideally, customer satisfaction is increased and the own company can concentrate on its core business. The tasks are simplified and there is no dependency on professionals of one’s own.
However, outsourcing can also lead to problems, such as dependency on service providers and communication problems/increased need for communication. Outsourcing not only relinquishes control, but also provides insight into sensitive data. Under certain circumstances, it can even lead to the loss of expertise through staff layoffs and demotivation of employees.
Via the platform CarLo exCHANGE, a Web-based company portal, transport orders can be placed with external service providers by tender or direct award.
